₹ 59,595.95 from the proceeds of the first two seasons went towards
Dogs of Delhi and was used to spay/neuter and vaccinate, 17 dogs & 9 cats (and Season 2 proceeds yet to be utilised)!! It’s an organisation which works primarily in the Delhi-NCR region to provide homes for and sterilise free-ranging animals, especially dogs and cats, but they don’t discriminate based on species, as the founders are themselves anti-speciesists. Since we will only be able to donate 10% of the proceeds starting Season 2, due to the incredible amount of time and effort it requires run a league, we request you to
donate to them directly, if you can.
Your contribution towards this quiz league helps in 4 ways:
1. It’ll be used to spay and neuter cats and dogs, and end their suffering in the streets. Although, it violates their immediate reproductive rights (
Fusfeld, 2007;
Kymlicka & Donaldson, 2011), it ensures that no future lives are wrongfully brought into existence (
Benater, 2006;
Dunayer, J., 2004;
Francione, 2007,
2008,
2010;
Fusfeld, 2007) to suffer from starvation as well as aggression and harm from humans.
2. Feral and domesticated cats and dogs harm and kill an astounding number of a wide variety of wild animals (
Hughes & MacDonald, 2013,
Loss et al, 2022). Sterilization has been successful in reducing the population of free-ranging dogs and cats (
Schurer et al, 2015,
Cafazzo et al, 2019) but it needs to be done at a higher intensity to be effective (
Gunther et al, 2022). This is only possible with higher financial support for the on-field individuals working towards this cause. This will be carried out with the use of the most ethical and efficient of Capture-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return techniques (
Animal Welfare Board of India, 2009;
MacFarlaine & Gibson, 2018).
3. As an added benefit of spaying and neutering, and the resulting declined free roaming non-human animals, there will be less incidents involving a negative interaction between humans and dogs or cats, such as the bodily harm or spread of zoonotic disease such as rabies or a COVID-like pandemic (although it’s usually human carelessness and aggression which leads to it) (
Jackman & Rowan, 2007,
McGonagle, 2012). Thus, we address three issues in one go through our initiative, helping the feral or domesticated animals, wildlife, as well as human health!
4. Your contribution helps in financially sustaining persons involved in using science and technology to help improve the world, without having to rely on funds which come with strings attached, which in turn will enable us to transcend boundaries by conducting independent research and work.
